OVERVIEW

Pyotr Lukyanenko is a contemporary Belarusian artist working in various genres of easel painting. The central place in his art is taken by conceptual and publicistic works.

Publicistic paintings of the Soviet time show deep contrast between the official state ideology and the real life. In latest works the artist comprehends dramatic changes happening in post-communist countries since 90-s.

Conceptual paintings are original compositions created by artist's imagination. They take spectator's mind out of prosiness and intend to think about philosophic issues that were important during the whole human history.

Pyotr Lukyanenko fluently speaks the language of painting. His portraits, landscapes and still-lifes are notable for counterpoint of techniques and manners of performance.

STATEMENT

For the artist art is like a mirror that he directs to the outside world and shows to spectators.

The reflection depends on the mirror quality and its direction. The mirror quality is the proficiency of the painter. The choice of direction depends on artist's aesthetic preferences, creative courage and attitude towards topical issues.

The mirror and its image are different things. The mirror only reflects that, on what it is directed.

The image in the mirror depends on how you look at it. If the spectator looks at a painting from the same point as the artist, he will see that, what the author wanted to express. If the spectator looks at another angle, he will see in the painting something own.
